Autographs

Once upon a time, one of my hobbies was to write letters to famous actors and ask them to autograph some photos. This page shows the results of writing a dozen or so letters to actors and actresses all over the world. Unfortunately, not all them send something back. If you are interested in writing to these celebrities, do not hesitate to send me an e-mail.

Eli Wallach

Although already 93 years old at the time of writing, mr. Wallach returned three autographed stills from (one of) the best films ever: The Good The Bad and The Ugly.

Jean Reno

French actor Jean Reno was also kind enough to return some autographed photos of him with a very young Natalie Portman in Leon the Professional.

Tatsuya Nakadai

Another letter of mine reached Japanese shores to request autographs from Tatsuya Nakadai, a legendary Japanese actor who has appeared in many films of great Japanese directors such as Akira Kurosawa and Masaki Kobayashi. The photos below show the range of roles Nakadai played: a soldier in the Human Condition (Ningen no jôken) trilogy (1959-1961), a poor ronin samurai in Harakiri (1962), and a sociopath samurai in Sword of Doom (Dai-bosatsu tôge, 1966).

Later, when I was studying in Japan as an exchange student, I wrote another letter to mr. Nakadai. He, or rather his personal assistant, was so kind to send me a letter with a photo and a small promotional poster for the production he was appearing in at the moment.

Geoffrey Rush

An envelope filled with photos also arrived from Australia. To be more precise: an envelope with photos of and autographed by Geoffrey Rush, an Australian actor who plays Captain Barbossa in the Pirates of the Caribbean films and also appeared in the Academy Award-winning 2010 film The King’s Speech.

Sir Ian McKellen

Another very nice success: Sir Ian McKellen, a legendary actor perhaps best known for his role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films and in the upcoming Hobbit films.
